After a not so subtle hint last week, we are pleased to confirm that on the 22nd of Jan 2022, The CEPG were invited by the Southern Electric Traction Group, at their depot in Strawberry Hill. Of course we were there to go and visit perhaps one of the finest southern EMUs preserved, 4-VEP 3417 “Gordon Pettit”.
We started the day with some insight to how they operate, gaining lots of invaluable advice on how to do things, before going into the workshops and seeing the set in all its glory. We walked around the interior, operated the cabs and looked around the under frame, to really see what makes this unit “tick”.
Towards the end of the day, the front doors were opened and we got some pictures with our trusty mini-headboard. It was a brilliant day and we cannot thank them enough. Please support them as well if you can, they are really close to getting their unit operational once more.
Some photos of the day are attached for you to enjoy, thanks to Dom Shaw.
